Melissa Wood: Paintings
Layers / Animals in the Architecture
The first images I created when I was a child were of fantastical birds wearing high heels and turtles with flowers on their shells. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t feel a strong affinity for all manner of animals, reptiles, birds and insects. I grew up in an area with abundant wildlife and I was fortunate to enjoy and be comfortable in the woods. Birds, lizards, foxes, field mice, fish, crawfish and especially turtles were frequent visitors in my life. I identify with and layer images of them in my work.
